Apportioned Statewide And Beyond

Apportioned Registration services Monday – Friday, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm by appointment only.

You are required to register your vehicles apportionately if your vehicle travels or intended for travel in two or more of the member jurisdictions listed on page 27 of The Plan Current Version (IRP link above) and :Is used for the transportation of people for hire or is designed, used , and/or kept primarily for the transport of property,

  • Is a power unit having a gross or registered weight in excess of 26,000 pounds, or

  • Is used on combination when the weight of such combination exceeds 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, or

  • Is a power unit having three or more axles regardless of weight

  • Vehicles or combinations having a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or less than two axle vehicles may be apportioned at the option of the owner.

Apportioned Vehicle Services are available by appointment only by calling our office 215-494-8023.

Please note: We are unable to process Apportioned Registration online therefore all applications and documents are sent to PennDOT via messenger to be processed. This method generally takes 6 to 8 weeks. Once processed the Apportioned Plate and Cab Card is returned to us and we will call you when received.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is one of 49 States that are included in the International Registration Plan.The plan provides for interstate operators to register their vehicles in Pennsylvania instead of having to deal directly with the different states in which they operate. PennDOT in turn will pay the “Apportionable” Fees to the various States and Canadian Provinces the vehicle is operated on the basis of proportion of total distance operated in each State or Province.

Getting Your New Account

  • Vehicle title
    The title is not necessary if it is already a PA title in your name and you do not need to make any changes. We can assist in requesting the title from your lienholder if the title is necessary for the transaction.

  • Proof of Insurance
    We need to submit proof of insurance for the vehicle you are registering. Bobtail only insurance coverage is not acceptable.

  • Lease Agreement
    We must submit a copy of your lease agreement if you are leased onto a company. The lease must show certain information to be acceptable. Please use the lease addendum for the most efficient and accurate way to provide this information for your registration application.

  • Proof of Address
    You must provide 3 acceptable proofs of address that verify your physical location in Pennsylvania. Copies of these documents must be submitted with your application.

  • Paid 2290 (Heavy Highway Use Tax)
    A copy of a paid 2290 for the current year showing the VIN of the vehicle your registration must be attached to the application. (exceptions do apply)

  • Employer Identification Number
    You must provide your EIN for the application.

  • DOT number
    Your DOT number is required for the application.

  • Form MV41
    The MV41 must be completed by a PA inspection mechanic qualified to inspect your vehicle. This form must be submitted for any Non Pennsylvania title applications.

  • Registration Fees
    IRP registration expires on May 31. Your registration fees are prorated according to the remaining months including May multiplied by the monthly registration fee for your weight class. These fees must be submitted with your application. Any overage will be held by PennDot as a credit on your account. Any underage will result in a new invoice that must be paid before actual PennDot issued credentials can be received.

Additional Services

PA IFTA decals
valid decals must be displayed on your vehicle at all times and quarterly reports must be filed on time to avoid penalties.

  • NY HUT credentials
    If you operate in New York State, you are required to maintain these credentials and file quarterly reports in a timely fashion to avoid penalties and fines.

  • UCR
    Unified Carrier Registration is required to be maintained unless you are only a vehicle registrant according to your DOT application.

  • PUC Number
    you must have a PUC number if you carry loads between two locations within PA state lines. (exceptions apply)

  • MC Authority
    you must have an MC number if you plan to operate under your own authority and not under the umbrella of another company.
